The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”

5. Better Promises
By Pastor Chris Martin     Mar 08, 2015
Heb 8:6

March 8, 2015: Better Promises

Hebrews 8:1-13

Heb. 8:1  Summation of the previous chapter

Jesus is your high priest.

He is seated next to the Father. His sacrifice is finished unlike other priests who must keep sacrificing.

Heb 8:2  He is in the true tabernacle which God built.

Heb. 8:3

High priest's job was to give sacrifices.

Jesus gave sacrifice too, but it is superior to the others.

Heb. 8:4

If Jesus were still here, he could not be your high priest.

Heb. 8:5

The earthly tabernacle is a shadow of heaven.

It's a copy pointing to the heavenly tabernacle.

Heb. 8:6

Jesus has a superior ministry. He can make us right. Levitical priesthood meant continual sacrifices, but it never took away sin.

Jesus has a better covenant. The old covenant was dos and don'ts, and no one can keep all. In Christ, his blood cleansed us. We don't have to keep the law in our strength. We live under the grace of God. We cannot just do whatever we want; God wants us to live holy lives. (Romans 6:14-15, Galatians 5:16)

Jesus has better promises. We are children of God, cleansed from sin, and filled with the Holy Spirit. The Old Testament promises are encompassed in the New Testament which has even more. (Romans 10:13, Hebrews 7:25, Luke 11:13, Luke 3:16, Acts 2:39, John 14:13-14, John 14:12, John 10:10, Romans 8:38-39, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Romans 8:14-17, Revelation chapters 2-3).

Heb. 8:7

If the old were perfect, they would not need a new covenant.

Heb. 8:8-10

The new covenant is on our hearts when we come to Christ.

Heb. 8:11-12

Grace & mercy

Heb. 8:13

The old is obsolete; we don't need to live under it.

Don't try to live under the law, but live by the Spirit.

John 3:16

6. Power
By Pastor Chris Martin     Mar 01, 2015
Heb 7:19

For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
